Groundwork projects can help boost people's health

Through the programmes we run, we improve people’s health both directly and indirectly. We have specific initiatives, but much of our work helping to improve lives in disadvantaged communities affects the wider determinants of health.

We’ve found that encouraging people to value, use and improve open spaces is one of the most effective ways of kick-starting a revival in the fortunes of damaged communities and also helping people adopt healthier lifestyles. Through our work, more people are encouraged to walk, cycle and exercise, and we support food growing and healthy eating initiatives in many areas.

Improving mental wellbeing is a major outcome of many of our youth and employment programmes.

Our connections within communities and our ability to work holistically across sectors means we’re an important partner for many Primary Care Trusts and other NHS organisations. In London we are a partner in ‘Well London' – a major lottery funded public health initiative.
