Enjoy volunteering at Wormwood Scrubs Nature Reserve
Do you want to get fit? We are seeking volunteers to help manage the Wormwood Scrubs Local Nature Reserve, the best site for seeing wildlife in Hammersmith and Fulham. Those looking to experience the outdoors, get fit, meet new people and make a contribution to their local environment need look no further as the new Wormwood Scrubs Nature Volunteers group runs throughout 2010.
Groundwork London works with the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to manage and maintain the Wormwood Scrubs Local Nature Reserve. Through creating new habitats and maintaining existing ones, the volunteer group will help to improve the park’s value for nature.
The local nature reserve supports a wide variety of plants, birds and other animals, including bats and common lizards, both of which are declining in London. “There is nothing more rewarding than spending a few hours a month helping to preserve these precious places for wildlife in an urban city setting like London,” said Francesca Barker, Nature Conservation Officer for Groundwork London.
Everyone is welcome to join in with these practical conservation sessions that include tree planting, hedge laying, surveying for a range of species and much more. Volunteers do not need to have any previous experience as full training will be given. Tools and tea and coffee will be provided, and £3 will be contributed to each volunteer to help towards travel costs.
Sessions run from 10:30am – 3:30pm on the second Saturday of each month and the last Tuesday of each month starting on Saturday 9 Jan 2010 and Tuesday 26 Jan 2010 respectively.
