If you live or work in Wandsworth, find out how to volunteer your time to help others during Volunteer Week from June 1.
Volunteering Wandsworth is delivered by Groundwork London on behalf of Wandsworth council to help bring together volunteers and organisations with volunteer vacancies, and to make it easier for people to make a real difference in the community.
It will be holding twice monthly ‘pop up’ meetings at borough libraries to inspire and support volunteers. Volunteering Wandsworth staff will be giving information and advice to anyone who lives, works or studies in Wandsworth and is interested in volunteering.
During June, meetings will be held at:
Meetings will continue throughout 2011. A full list of sessions is available and you can sign up online at www.volunteeringwandsworth.org.uk.
Volunteering Wandsworth will also be offering help to organisations that want to develop their volunteering programme, either by increasing the amount of volunteers they use, developing their management and training of existing volunteers or organising volunteering days for employees.
Volunteering Wandsworth specialises in helping employers and organisations design, implement and manage volunteer activities for groups or individuals. Volunteering Wandsworth was approached by restaurant chain Nandos, which is seeking to connect with local groups who could benefit from the hard work and community spirit of their staff.
During Volunteer Week employees from Nandos’ Putney-based Project Management Department are working with residents of Carey Gardens Estate Sheltered Housing to transform a shady and neglected garden.
Potential volunteers and organisations offering volunteer placements can call Volunteering Wandsworth on 0300 365 9950 from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday or email enquiry@volunteeringwandsworth.org.uk.
